Family Business


Family Business is a special interest group organized under the auspices of the Articles of Incorporation of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) to promote and encourage the development and advancement of programs and services in the specific entrepreneurship field and to provide a forum for information exchange.

GROUP MISSION

To advance knowledge of family business through scholarship and application, to recognize and share excellence and best practices in curriculum development and pedagogy, and to support collaboration and networking among family business professionals.

GROUP LEADERSHIP

Leadership of the Group is elected annually by the Group membership; questions relative to Group mission, membership; annual work program and objectives should be directed to one of the following members of the leadership team:

GROUP MEMBERSHIP

A member of USASBE in good standing, that has professional interest in the specific field of the Group and wishes to pursue expansion and promotion of the field and personal advancement through knowledge exchange and participation in the mission of the Group, is eligible for membership.

GROUP ANNUAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Annually as an element of the Association’s strategic planning process, the Group develops a work plan that outlines goals and objectives for the program year.  Outlined below are annual goals and objectives adopted by the Group:

  1. The group will encourage workshops at the 2010 USASBE conference that will focus on teaching family business.
  2. The group will solicit family business course syllabi and case studies from members to place on the Family Business Interest Group USASBE website.
  3. The group will plan a pre-conference workshop on teaching family business with an emphasis on the use of family business cases in the classroom.
  4. The group will continue to encourage family business research paper presentations with the theme-“Entrepreneurship in the Family Business” at the 2010 annual conference.
